Bomb squad destroys suspicious package at Winnipeg restaurant

A suspicious package that evacuated a Boston Pizza for several hours Monday night, and brought out the bomb squad, turned out to not be explosive.

A suspicious package that forced the evacuation of a number of businesses for several hours Monday night, and brought out the police bomb squad, turned out to not be explosive after all.

Police were called to a Boston Pizza restaurant in the 2200 block of McPhillips Street at about 7:30 p.m.

Soon afterwards, police cleared businesses in the area and blocked a couple of lanes of traffic while members of the bomb squad investigated a package behind Boston Pizza.

A police robot destroyed the package late in the night and the area was reopened to the public around midnight.
