A stubborn fire that burned sections of Oak Hammock Marsh this week is finally out after a flare-up Thursday night.
The fire started Tuesday, ignited by a spark from a tractor on a nearby field.
It initially burned 1,000 acres of wetlands and 200 acres of duck and song bird nesting sites.
A four-by-200-metre strip of grassland flared up Thursday but is now out.
A spokesperson for the marsh tells us they allowed the fire to burn itself out.
Oak Hammock Marsh, north of Winnipeg, contains some 20 square kilometres of open marsh and a slightly smaller area of woods and grasslands.
It is also the home to Ducks Unlimited's national head office in Canada.
