The president of Red River College said she will reimburse the college for items she expensed, after the Canadian Taxpayers Federation released documents showing she got golf shoes, duffel bags and car washes on the college’s dime.

The federation released documents on Wednesday, showing Stephanie Forsyth expensed $205 golf shoes as well as a number of expenses for her BMW, including her driver's licence, car washes, winter tires and a GPS system.

Forsyth’s expenses were obtained by an access to information request made by the federation.

Students expressed frustration with the spending after the report surfaced, and the federation called for the college to be reimbursed for inappropriate expenses.

On Thursday, Forsyth released a statement saying she would reimburse the college for the golf shoes and her 2011 license.

Forsyth said in the statement, “[The golf shoes] were and are only used for college business. However, I understand some people may find the expense questionable.”

The statement also said a $134 duffel bag purchased from the Vancouver International Airport and expensed by Forsyth was to replace a damaged one carrying “college documentation and files.”

Finally, Forsyth said the college would be reimbursed for her 2011 license, which was expensed in error.

She emphasized that all of her expenses have the purpose of promoting and raising awareness for the college but added moving forward, all of her expenses will be posted on the college’s website.
