The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed the son of legendary punter Bob Cameron.

The team announced Wednesday that Winnipeg-born Brett Cameron, who played his high school football at St. Paul's before heading to the University of North Dakota, will be at the upcoming training camp.

Like his dad, Brett is also a punter who has made an impressive mark on the gridiron.

“Brett is a prospect with great potential at the professional level,” said Bombers general manager Joe Mack in a news release.

“When it is the right fit, it is always appealing to have local talent within your organization and we look forward to Brett coming in and competing in our training camp.”

Brett, 22, spent the past three years as a starter at UND, finishing with a career punting average of 40.6 — tied for the second best in UND history.

He wrapped up his senior season with a career-best punting average of 42.1 yards, good for fourth-highest in school history.

Throughout his four years at UND, Cameron landed 57 punts inside the 20-yard line and had 30 punts of 50-yards or longer, according to the Bombers.

His career-long punt was 65 yards during his sophomore year.

Bob Cameron played 23 CFL seasons (1980-2002) with the Blue Bombers, helping them win three Grey Cups.

He remains the CFL's all-time leading punter with 134,301 regular season punting yards, was named a CFL all-star four times and a divisional all-star six times.

He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2010.
