Shots were fired in downtown Winnipeg on Sunday night, following a strange series of events stemming from a drug deal.
Police were called to Dominion News on Portage Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. CT, which was struck by a shotgun blast that came from a nearby car.
Numerous officers and cruisers surrounded the area and several were on the scene all night long into Monday morning.
According to police, the incident started in the Garden City neighbourhood, where two men were conducting a drug deal with another man they did not know.
The third man pulled out a shotgun and pointed it at the other two men. In response, one of the two men pulled out a replica gun.
The man with the shotgun fled, leaving the gun behind. No shots were fired, according to police.
The two men then drove downtown after picking up another person. While parked, the three of them began handling the shotgun, which went off, shooting into the door of the vehicle and also striking Dominion News.
Police later located the vehicle and recovered the shotgun and replica gun, along with cash and marijuana.
No one was hurt in the shooting.
Three men have been taken into custody.
Dominion News owner Guy Paquette was called to the store by his alarm company because of a report of broken glass.
Paquette and a police officer looked over the window and only saw chips.
"The shot had spread and it had nicked my window, which made a couple of little dents here and there, and my upper sign was perforated," he said.
