Gas prices in Winnipeg have jumped up and down all day Friday, with a five cent increase in the morning, followed by a brief dip and another late afternoon rise to 123.9.
The posted price was 121.9 at numerous locations in the morning, while a few still had it at 116.9.
But later in the morning, a few stations that had pushed up the price, knocked it back down to 116.9.
By later afternoon, prices surged to 123.9
In the past month, the gas price has ballooned in Winnipeg. On Jan. 29, it was 104.5.
Jason Toews, co-founder of Gasbuddy.com, a website that monitors prices around the country, said prices will fluctuate like that when some stations test the market.
But what happened Friday doesn't happen often, he said.
“When some stations resist the price hike and they don't raise up their prices, what happens is it actually forces the stations that raised their prices up … to lower their prices back down,” he said.
