A watermain break at Corydon Avenue and Stafford Street sent water flooding into the intersection Tuesday morning.
The break flooded the gymnasium at the nearby St. Ignatius School on Harrow Avenue, forcing the school to close for the day.
School officials are requesting parents pick up their children from the school. The extent of the damage from the flooding is unknown.
Principal Glen Pelahicky said he wasn’t sure when students would be able to return to classes.
“We don’t know how long this will take,” said Pelahicky.
“I am taking it one day at a time here. If there are complications, we will get the news out.”
Traffic was also affected in the area, with one westbound lane of Corydon closed to allow crews to repair the break.
There was no word on how long the break would take to repair or when the lane might be reopened.
