A Winnipeg family with two young children won’t be able to return to their home for two months, after a fire broke out in their Jubilee Avenue house Monday morning.
Danny Brock said his wife woke up at 2 a.m. to the smell of smoke.
When Brock went to check out the source of the smoke, he saw it billowing out of his bathroom.
“I saw smoke coming out of the light switch and like, just pouring out a light switch, and I looked through the crack in the door into the bathroom, and I saw brightness,” said Brock.
He and his wife quickly got his 7-week-old baby and 4-year-old son and two exchange students up and out of the house.
Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, but it caused $160,000 damage to the home.
Fire officials believe the blaze started as an electrical fire in the bathroom and was likely due to the age of the wiring.
Brock and his family won’t be able to return to their home for months but did have insurance.
