Winnipeg’s Chinatown got a mini-makeover Tuesday morning.
Eighteen new banners went up throughout the neighbourhood to usher in the Year of the Snake.
The area has been displaying banners since 1991 and holds a banner-design competition every year.
This year’s winning banner will be unveiled at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at a Chinese New Year banquet at Kum Koon Garden on King Street.
The Downtown BIZ association also put up 17 additional "district banners" to help define the boundaries of Chinatown.
The banners will remain up year-round on Main Street, Princess Street, Logan Avenue and James Avenue.
