The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba says it’s overwhelmed by the support it has received since their building flooded Tuesday.

“It’s been so much generosity from the community. It’s overwhelming,” said CEO Syvlia Rothney.

Tuesday morning a sprinkler pipe exploded, sending water gushing into a boardroom and down the hallways.

The water seriously damaged the building and a number of donations that were gathered for an upcoming fundraiser the organization had scheduled.

“Our job is to provide support and services to people with Alzheimer’s and in order to do that we really rely on support of the community and donations,” said Rothney.

Rothney said the fundraiser, scheduled for Feb. 7, is still on, but a number of support group meetings normally held at their offices had to be cancelled.

In the meantime, donations are being accepted online at the Alzheimer Society’s website, or in person at Derksen Plumbing, where the society has temporarily set up office.
