The Winnipeg Jets didn't only bring their fans back to the MTS Centre after the NHL lockout ended in January, they also brought cash back to the city's downtown businesses.

Arkadash Bistro has seen a giant jump in business on game nights, according to executive chef Karen Peters.

"We didn't know what to anticipate because we opened right after the season ended," said Peters.

"We're seeing a walk-in of 20 to 40 per cent greater than it was before hockey."

Edgar Rascon owns La Bamba Café across from the arena and said business is up there as well.

"When there's a Jets game, we are at capacity here," said Rascon.

During the lockout, Rascon said he had to come up with ways to draw in customers.

"We did a Groupon just to last three months — just to get us through halfway into November," said Rascon.

Silver Heights Restaurant has seen similar benefits. The restaurant offers a shuttle bus to and from the MTS Centre.

Two weeks ago, they were overbooked, according to owner Tony Siwicki.

Siwicki said he's grateful the team is back.

"Without a game night, it's not as loud," he said.

"We try to create the excitement, but it's not the same."

The Winnipeg Jets hit the ice at the MTS Centre to face off against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night.
