RCMP officers investigating the death of a woman in Ethelbert, Man., over the weekend have found a man's body at the same scene, according to police.
The elderly woman's body was found Saturday in a home in Ethelbert, located about 230 kilometres northwest of Brandon. RCMP say they are treating her death as a homicide.
Officers who were searching the property where the woman's body was found also located the body of a man, RCMP said in a release Monday.
Police say they are treating the man's death as suspicious at this time.
The identities of the deceased woman and man have yet to be confirmed, according to police. Autopsies have been scheduled for Monday in Winnipeg.
Community in shock
The deaths have people in Ethelbert, a community of about 300, shocked and worried about their safety, says Mayor Mitch Michaluk.
Michaluk told CBC News he called RCMP after neighbours expressed concerns that they had not seen any activity coming from the woman's house in days.
The elderly woman lived in the home with her nephew, who was in his 40s, Michaluk said.
"You get a community of 300 people and it's fairly close-knit, so everybody knows each other," he said.
"Everyone has feelings and feels quite bad about this."
Michaluk said the woman's death is the first homicide case in Ethelbert that he can remember.
"There was a few families concerned about their children and … if it was a homicide, where's the person that possibly was involved in that?" he said.
