Winnipeg police have laid charges after a man rushed to hospital in critical condition following a brutal assault Saturday morning.
Police and emergency crews rushed to a home in the 500 block of College Avenue just after 10 a.m. to find a badly injured man. The 25 year old was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Police said several people were drinking Friday night, and the assault took place after everyone had gone to sleep. "It appears a number of people were asleep at the time of the assault," said Const. Jason Michalyshen. "We certainly are acknowledging that alcohol was present."
The victim was punched and kicked in the head while he was asleep, according to police. He remained in critical condition on Tuesday.
Now, 20-year-old Shawn Patrick McDougall is facing aggravated assault charges. Police said he turned himself in to police on Monday.
McDougall remains in police custody.
