Some semi-trailer drivers have been stuck on a northern Ontario highway since Friday morning, due to freezing rain, and at least one trucker says he suspects they'll be there overnight.
Peter Budding says he was leaving North Bay, Ont., for Winnipeg on Highway 11 early Friday when he had to stop 60 kilometres north of the city, where two other semis had lost control on the road at around 8:30 a.m.
"Picture a hockey rink. It's a sheet of ice, but worse," Budding told CBC News late Friday afternoon.
"This stretch of road was just recently asphalted this past summer. And because it's new asphalt, it's still very, very slick."
Ontario Provincial Police confirm that part of Highway 11 is closed because of freezing rain.
Budding said there are about 30 other trucks stuck in the same area.
"I just happened to buy a laptop and I bought a couple of DVDs … I've watched them a few times now," he said, adding that he has walked around every now and then just to get some fresh air.
"I've got water, I've got granola bars," he said.
