A passerby who helped a Winnipeg police officer control an aggressive man is being sought out for a handshake.

The incident happened on Dec. 31, 2012, just after 12 a.m. An officer was patrolling the area around the 400 block of Main Street when he saw an assault happening.

The officer tried to arrest a man when things got rough. The suspect started trying to fight off the officer.

At that time, a passerby jumped in and helped the officer until backup officers arrived.

“As a result of the assistance offered, the combative and belligerent male suspect was safely taken into police custody,” states a news release from police.

But the Good Samaritan left before officers were able to offer their thanks.

The police service is now asking that person to contact them at 204 986-6288.
