The victim was contacted in September with an offer to update his computer security system by a man who called himself the PC Doctor, police said in a news release on Monday.

In December, the victim was again contacted by a man who advised that his company had been unable to update the computer and therefore would be refunding the fee.

The victim was asked to fill out an online Western Union form to proceed with the process. The form was completed with the victim’s personal information and credit card information.

However, instead of receiving the refund, the victim was hit with several more fraudulent charges on the credit card.

Personal and/or financial information should never be given to unsolicited parties, police said in the release. They suggest people consult the Competition Bureau of Canada’s The Little Black Book of Scams, a reference guide on how to avoid the most common frauds.
