A Winnipeg man is on his fifth day with no heat in his apartment after his furnace broke down earlier this week.
Cory Ciunyk has been huddled under blankets trying to stay warm, in the four-plex apartment building on Pritchard Avenue and Parr Street.
He said Saturday night has been the coldest so far.
"It was terrible," said Ciunyk. "I had my head under the blankets. I got up to go to the washroom in the middle of the night and my windows were all frozen."
Temperatures dipped to -27 C in Winnipeg Sunday morning.
In the recent weeks the ignitor failed to work a few times, and his landlord tried to fix it, said Ciunyk.
But now, he said he has tried contacting his landlord, but hasn't been able to reach him.
Ciunyk he's trying a few things to stay warm — he had been keeping his oven on, but it has died too, so he is now using a small heater donated by a family member.
He has also been asking friends to come by his house so he can sit in their heated cars to warm up.
CBC News has also tried to contact the landlord, but a voice mail said he's out of town until Saturday.
Ciunyk had been in a house fire in 2002 and suffered smoke inhalation that damaged his lungs. He has been unable to work and lives on disability payments from the government.
