Winnipeg police have released photographs of a suspect who they say threatened a 41-year-old man and his guide dog in September. Investigators are hoping someone will be able to identify the suspect.

Police say the victim and the guide dog were waiting for a transit bus on Portage Avenue and Spence Street at around 8 a.m. on Sept. 17 when an unknown man came up to them and tried to distract the dog.

The suspect continued to distract the guide dog even after being asked to stop. He then threatened to seriously harm both the man and the dog, according to police.

The suspect then followed the victim and the dog onto a bus heading to the Polo Park area and kept threatening them, even after several passengers tried to intervene, according to police.

The victim and the guide dog eventually got off the bus unharmed and made their way to their destination, where police were notified.

While the incident happened in September, police say they still haven't been able to locate the suspect. On Wednesday, they released images of him that were captured by surveillance cameras in the bus.

"This individual needs to be identified," Const. Jason Michalyshen told reporters.

"Members of the public need to realize that this is not the kind of behaviour that we're going to tolerate in any situation."

Police describe the suspect as five feet eight to five feet nine inches tall, with dark brown hair and a goatee.
