A former Winnipeg soccer coach has been sentenced to five years in prison for sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl.

Stephen Skavinsky, 52, pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation, sexual interference, possessing child pornography, and internet luring.

He was sentenced on Wednesday.

Court heard Skavinsky was an acquaintance of the girl's father and began coaching her in the fall of 2008.

Skavinsky admitted taking the girl to his home and being involved with her sexually. According to court documents, the sexual assaults occurred between Jan. 1, 2008 and May 15, 2010.

The judge also ordered Skavinsky be barred for life from going to pools, parks and community centres where children under 16 are present.
