Members of Hull's Haven, a volunteer-run border collie rescue group in Winnipeg, say they're devastated after supplies that were donated for an upcoming trip north were stolen this week.
Dozens of boxes of food and dog supplies, which were being collected to help rescue dogs in Norway House, Man., vanished recently.
Hull's Haven is looking for donations of dog food and supplies before they head to Norway House, Man., on Dec. 7. Those who want to donate are asked to visit the group's website. (CBC)"There [were] food, treats, supplies, blankets. There was some medical stuff in there, some much-needed cleaning stuff for up north," Jill Britton of Hull's Haven told CBC News on Friday.
Britton said people were leaving their donations on her driveway, and neighbours would normally watch over the boxes in her yard to make sure they don't disappear.
"The other night, while I was actually taking a new foster [dog] to his new home, I was gone for about an hour," she said.
"When I came back, about 44 boxes that had been dropped off the day before were stolen from the yard. So it's pretty devastating."
Britton said a trip to Norway House is still being planned for Dec. 7, and Hull's Haven is hoping to get new donations by then. Those who want to make a donation can visit the group's website for more information.
Hull's Haven members who are going to Norway House will return with a number of northern dogs that will be put up for adoption in Winnipeg, she added.
Hull's Haven is a volunteer-run non-profit group that places rescued dogs in foster homes until they can be adopted out.
