A convicted sex offender considered a high risk to commit offences against children has been released from jail and expected to live in Winnipeg.

The Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit (MIHRSOU) issued a public notice on Wednesday about Ryan James Gabourie, 31, who was released from Headingley Correctional Institution on Tuesday.

Gabourie has a history of sexual offences in relation to children, including sexual assault, break and enter to commit sexual assault, possession of child pornography, as well as many other criminal offences, according to the MIHRSOU, which is a joint forces unit of the Winnipeg Police Service and RCMP.

Although Gabourie participated in some sex offender treatment while in jail, he is still considered a high risk to re-offend and both boys and girls are at risk.

His previous offences involve sexually molesting five young boys, between the ages of five and 11, old by entering their homes through unlocked windows or doors and sexually assaulting them in their beds while their families were sleeping nearby.

Gabourie entered the homes of another boy and girl in the same manner but was discovered before he committed any additional offences, according to the MIHRSOU.

The victims were unknown to him.

He would chose homes where children’s toys were visible in the yard or could be seen inside the homes by peering in through windows. He has also been arrested for being in the possession of child pornography.

Gabourie's probation order prohibits him from attending a public park or public swimming area where persons under the age of 14 are present or can reasonably be expected to be present; or a day care centre, school ground, playground or community centre

He is also prohibited from "seeking, obtaining or continuing any employment, whether or not the employment is remunerated, or becoming or being a volunteer in a capacity that involves being in a position of trust or authority towards persons under the age of 14; or using a computer system for the purpose of communicating with a person under the age of 14, and having possession of a computer or internet access."

"This information is provided to enable members of the public to take suitable measures to protect themselves. Any form of vigilante activity or other unreasonable conduct directed at Ryan James Gabourie will not be tolerated," states the release from the MIHRSOU.
