Winnipeg police are investigating a rooming house fire that caused $20,000 damage in the city's West End.

Everyone got out unharmed from the house, located on the 400 block of Maryland Street, after the fire broke out around 10 p.m. CT Tuesday.

The fire appears to have been set on the outside of the building "by unknown persons," police said in a release Wednesday.

The police service's arson strike force is investigating.
