The Winnipeg Humane Society has a Halloween treat for wannabe dog owners.
The shelter is overflowing with dogs and puppies, so it's offering a discount on adoptions all day Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT.
Dogs will go for $99 and puppies for $149.
Prospective dog owners who come into the shelter wearing a costume will also get a treat, but the humane society says wearing a mask is not advised as it may upset the dogs.
More than 30 dogs and nearly 40 puppies are available for adoption.
The shelter said it has turned dogs away since Thursday, due to a lack of space.
"We have more dogs and puppies waiting in the back to move into adoption, but can't because of this bottleneck effect," Bill McDonald, the society's chief executive officer, said in a news release Tuesday.
"Puppies should not grow up in a shelter environment. We have great adult dogs of every look and personality waiting for their new home," he added.
The promotion applies to medium and large breed dogs. The adoption fee includes spay and neuter surgery, tattoos, the first set of shots, de-worming, a two-week health check, six weeks of pet insurance and a City of Winnipeg dog licence.
