Electricity has been fully restored in several northeastern Manitoba communities that were left in the dark by an overnight power outage.

St. Theresa Point, Man.

People in Oxford House, Garden Hill, Gods Lake Narrows, Gods River and St. Theresa Point had been without electricity since midday Wednesday.

A break in a hydroelectric transmission line that feeds power to the remote communities plunged approximately 3,000 people in the dark, according to Manitoba Hydro.

A Hydro spokesman told CBC News that two-thirds of affected customers had their power restored at around 10 a.m. CT on Thursday, while the lights came back on for everyone else by around noon.

The power outage raised safety concerns among people in the region, which is not accessible by road.

In Oxford House, many people built fires outdoors on Wednesday night to cook their meals, according to a local official.
