A 24-year-old man has been charged in connection with two homicides in Winnipeg, including the beating death of 16-year-old Paris Rene Cameron Bruce.

Winnipeg police say Michael Okemow, 24, was charged with manslaughter on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in Bruce's death.

Police confirmed to CBC News that Okemow was already in custody at the time, charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder in the death of Jordan Dennis Houle, 24.

Houle died after being shot in the 600 block of Maryland Street shortly after midnight on Sept. 29. A 19-year-old man who also sustained gunshot wounds was located in the same area.

In Bruce's case, police found the teen suffering injuries from what they described as a serious assault on the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue on Sept. 4. Bruce died three days later in hospital.

Okemow is the sixth man to be charged in connection with Bruce's death.

Also charged are Michael James Guimond, 34, Richard Daniel Beaulieu, 36, Warner Dairren Flett, 24, Gregory James Myerion, 37, and Colin Ray Monkman, 18. They all face manslaughter charges.

Police have previously said they believe Bruce's case is tied to a confrontation between rival street gangs.

The investigation is continuing by members of the police service's homicide unit.
