Fire crews across Manitoba are battling three wildfires that have started in the last 24 hours, but they say dry and windy conditions will pose a challenge.

The provincial fire commissioner's office says "up to 30 fire departments, dozens of firefighters and water bombers" have been involved in fighting the fires, which are in:

  • The Riverdale-Souris area.
  • Dominion City, near the Canada-U.S. border.
  • The St. Laurent area.

Water bombers are helping firefighters on the ground with the St. Laurent fire, provincial government officials said in a release Sunday.

No one has been hurt in any of the fires, no one has had to leave their homes, and there has been no loss of property, according to the release.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the wildfires.

The province says all three fires have been difficult to fight because they cross into a mix of forested areas, swampland, peat and agricultural lands.

While crews have been able to contain the fires to date, officials say dry and windy conditions being forecast for Sunday will pose a challenge.

In light of the dry conditions recently, the province says it has suspended all burning permits in the western, central and eastern parts of Manitoba.
