Police in Winnipeg are investigating the city's sixth shooting in one week. (Tyson Koschik/CBC)Police are not saying if the all the cases are related, but Winnipeg has seen six shootings, including one fatality, in the span of about one week.
Two of the cases were double shootings, including the most recent incident early Saturday morning in the city's West End.
According to police, emergency crews were dispatched at 12:20 a.m. CT to the 600 block of Maryland Street on reports of shots being fired.
Moments later, a second call to police indicated that a man was found suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers located the injured man, and while searching the area came upon a second man who was also injured from gunfire.
Both were taken to hospital. Police say a 24-year-old man is in critical condition, and a 19-year-old man is in stable condition.
The 19-year-old man was initially helped by a resident of the area who found him in her yard.
The resident told CBC News on Saturday that the man was bleeding from a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen. The woman said she applied pressure to the wound and kept the man conscious until emergency crews arrived.
While police said Saturday that the Maryland Street shootings were connected, they were not linking that case of violence to several other recent shootings in the city.
Another double shooting happened Thursday morning at a restaurant at Pembina Highway and Stafford Street. One man was killed in that incident.
And, one week ago, there were two separate incidents of people being shot. There were no fatalities in those cases.
