Winnipeg is one of four Canadian cities that will take part in national clinical trials for a new therapy for multiple sclerosis, commonly referred to as MS vein therapy.

Manitoba's Health Minister, Theresa Oswald, said she hopes 25 Manitobans will be chosen for the trials.

A total of 100 candidates from across the country will be recruited to test the so-called liberation therapy.

Other cities involved are Vancouver, Montreal and Quebec.

Oswald said the trials are expected to start before the end of the year.

The announcement came on the heels of news that the Manitoba Health Research Council would not be providing funds for any local tests of the therapy.
