Winnipeg police have charged a 44-year-old man in connection with a crash Wednesday morning in which a stolen Jeep Cherokee hit a tractor-trailer on Inkster Boulevard.

Police say officers driving on Sturgeon Road from Inkster first saw the Cherokee speeding and swerving in and out of traffic at around 11:35 a.m. CT.

The officers pursued the vehicle for a "significant distance" as it headed eastbound onto Inkster, until it collided with the westbound tractor-trailer and rolled into a ditch, police said in a release.

No one was seriously hurt in the crash.

The 44-year-old driver of the Cherokee became uncooperative and aggressive with police as he was being arrested, according to the release.

Police said they later learned that the Cherokee and its licence plates had been reported stolen in Winnipeg on Tuesday.

The driver has been charged with two counts of possessing property obtained by crime, two counts of uttering threats, and one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, and failing to comply with a court order.
