Some Winnipeg residents came to an open house on Wednesday to debate how the second phase of the city's rapid transit system should move through the city.
The City of Winnipeg hosted the open house as it seeks public feedback on two expansion options being proposed for the Southwest Transitway: the Hydro Corridor route and the CN Letellier route.
The Hydro Corridor moves west from Pembina Highway, past Chevrier and MacGillivray boulevards, and cuts through the Fort Garry Industrial Area between the Beaumont and Maybank neighbourhoods.
The industrial zone currently has no residential neighbourhoods, but the city says it could see development in the future if the rapid transit line runs through it.
The CN Letellier Alignment runs south along the west side of Pembina Highway, on the east side of the Letellier CN railway right-of-way, and runs parallel to Pembina Highway.
Some who attended the open house said they like the latter route because it runs through areas where people live and take the bus.
However, the city notes that the Letellier route would come at a higher price.
The city will host a second open house on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Holiday Inn on Pembina Highway.
