Manitoba talking to China about food security

Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger is in China on a trade mission. (CBC)Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger, in China on a trade mission, says his province is looking at sharing local expertise on food security with the Chinese.
Selinger said Friday that China has traditionally viewed Manitoba as a supplier of such commodities as wheat and canola, but the relationship is evolving.
"We're one of the world experts on food security and that is something that they are very interested in," Selinger said. "They actually waste, or lose, more food every year than Canada grows."
Selinger said his visit to China will lay the groundwork for future economic development.
"More and more we're seeing that they have an interest in sharing research and development technology and sharing research on food security and how to preserve their food," Selinger added. "So the relationship is moving up."
