Work began last year on building the Winnipeg store, located near Sterling Lyon Parkway and Kenaston Boulevard.

While the Swedish furniture retailer has said it will open the store this fall, it has not yet given a specific date.

Ikea officials, including Winnipeg store manager Stephen Bobko, will also give media a tour of the 390,000-square-foot building at the Sept. 19 announcement.

The Ikea store will be the anchor tenant in a massive big-box development, called Seasons of Tuxedo, that will turn about 80 hectares of industrial land into the largest development the city has seen in 25 years.
