Registration began on Tuesday morning for the City of Winnipeg's swim programs.

Residents can call 311 or register online. As well, there are also two places you can register in person at the Cindy Klassen Recreation Centre at 999 Sargent Ave. and at the Louis Riel Library at 1168 Dakota St.

Sign-up for other leisure guide programs begins at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Visit the city's website for more information.

Further on the swimming front, there's good news if you're hoping to take the kids to wading pools and splash pads on what promises to be a hot long weekend.

The city usually closes the pools and spray pads at the end of August.

This year they opened early because of the hot weather, and now they're staying open a little longer.

The city says splash pads will be open this weekend from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 pm.

Weather permitting, a number of city pools and wading pools will be open this weekend.
