An 80-year-old woman from Portage la Prairie, Man., has died after the car she was driving was hit by another car on the Trans-Canada Highway this afternoon.

Yellowquill Trail, Man.

RCMP say the woman was driving northbound, crossing the highway at the Yellowquill Trail, when she was struck by a westbound car at around 4:30 p.m. CT Thursday.

Emergency crews pronounced the woman dead at the scene, police said in a news release. Her name was not released.

A 35-year-old Winnipeg woman who was driving the westbound car was taken to hospital in Portage with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
