A Winnipeg woman who has been fighting breast cancer got quite a surprise on Sunday, when about 50 of her friends surprised her with a big party.
Janelle Komaransky, 32, has been too ill from cancer treatments to throw birthday parties for her two young sons, aged five and two, so about 20 of her friends joined forces to host a party for the whole family.
Janelle Komaransky, left, says a surprise party held for her and her family on Sunday has meant the world to her. (CBC)"For the last year, Janelle's felt really guilty that she couldn't do certain things with her kids and really couldn't be really active with them," said Heather Canars, one of the organizers.
"I knew she was worried about their birthdays and not being able to celebrate them, so it was nice that we could come together and make this happen for her."
Komaransky said Sunday's party means the world to her.
"It's been a really long road. I wouldn't be able to get through it without my family and friends," she said.
"I'm on the road to recovery, so just to enjoy life and see my boys happy, that's all that matters."
Komaransky's friends are also entered in the upcoming Run For The Cure, having already raised $11,000 for breast cancer research.
