A woman represented herself by video link in Winnipeg court Wednesday, hoping to change a condition on her sentence that banished her from Winnipeg and the province of Manitoba.

Alanna Phizacklea pleaded guilty in March to criminal harassment.

In a joint submission the crown agreed to spare Phizacklea penitentiary time if she agreed to leave the province for five years.

Phizacklea told the court she would never agree to that and may not have understood it at the time.

She said her elderly mother is moving back to Manitoba and she wants to be with her.

The crown argued Phizacklea suffers from delusional disorders and is not taking her medication.

Phizacklea often cut off the judge and crown and muttered comments like “shame” under her breath.

Justice Ted Lismer said if he had to decide today, he would deny the application to give Phizacklea's former lawyer a chance to respond to the serious allegation that she didn't understand the sentence.

The case has been adjourned until September.
