Sikhs from eight Winnipeg temples are holding a candlelight vigil at the Manitoba legislature to show support for the families and victims of a massacre in Wisconsin last weekend.
Six worshippers — five men and one woman — were gunned down by a white supremacist at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, almost a week ago for reasons that still aren't clear.
Rana Shana, a clergyman with one of the temples going to the Winnipeg vigil, said gathering as a community to pray is one of the ways to grieve and show support.
"We are with those families who have this problem. We want to support them morally and whatever way we can," he said.
"We condemn what happened. At the same time we are with those people who are in pain, who are hurting because of what happened to their families."
The vigil is set for 7 p.m. Friday.
Shana said there will also be prayers for the gunman.
"We want his soul also to be in peace," he said.
