Kelly Hofer spent most of his life on a Manitoba Hutterite colony.

So when he picked up a new hobby it ruffled some feathers in the traditional community.

Hofer started taking photographs of daily life on the colony, which is in conflict with a Bible passage that Hutterites claim prohibits them from having their photograph willingly taken.

Hofer left the colony a few weeks ago to start a new life in Calgary.

He now spends his days working and photographing people in his favourite place — Stephen Avenue.

The Eyeopener's Danielle Suchet talked to the local photographer about his work and life after the colony.
