Three people had to swim to shore after their boat was struck by another on Lake of the Woods.

According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), three people were in a 15-foot Bayliner near the Safeway docks when it was hit at about 4 a.m.

All three people aboard were thrown into the water as the vessel sank.

Two women passengers, aged 20 and 22, were transported to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg while the operator of the boat, a 25-year-old man, has been charged with two counts of drunk boating.

The boat that struck them sped off from the scene.

And investigation is continuing.
