Most windshields were smashed and many vehicles were dented from the vandalism attack on cars at Winnipeg's central mosque. (Omar Adan)People in Winnipeg's Muslim community are shaken after someone vandalized several cars near the Central Mosque.
Idris Knapp, the manager of the mosque, on the 700 block of Ellice Avenue, in the city's West End, said people were praying during Ramadan and came out of the mosque shortly after 12 a.m. Friday.
One person was confronted by a man making threats, Knapp said.
The man then started smashing the windshields of several cars.
"It's hard to say if this is hate crime against the Muslim community, or if this is a hate crime against the immigrant community, or if this is just a crime that someone did because they hate everything," Knapp said.
Winnipeg police confirmed they are investigating the incident.
Eyewitnesses told police that someone smashed windows and caused dents to the vehicles by running on top of them.
About 10 cars were damaged.
