Winnipeg police are saying little about the city's 19th homicide early Sunday, that a witness said arose from a dispute over money.
Police responded to reports of an injured adult woman in the 500 block of Furby Street around 5:30 a.m.
A neighbour witnessed the incident and told CBC News that the victim and her sister were on their bikes when a man ran from a nearby apartment building and stabbed one of them in the stomach. The witness, who said she was interviewed by police, said the incident appeared to be a dispute over money. The woman said she ran to help the 20-year-old victim and efforts were made by others to resuscitate her but she lost too much blood and later died.
Police say homicide investigators are in the initial stages of their investigation and that more details will be released as the investigation proceeds.
