A nine-week-old puppy in Winnipeg is looking for a new home, having survived being thrown out of a moving van last week.
The female Australian shepherd mix, who has been named Mandy, was rescued after being thrown from a vehicle on Valour Road, in the city's West End, sometime last week, city officials say.
Two witnesses saw the puppy doing two full cartwheels in the air before hitting the ground, the City of Winnipeg's animal services agency said in a release.
The witnesses scooped up the ejected puppy and brought her to the animal agency, where a veterinarian checked her out and determined that she was healthy.
Mandy is now available for adoption, according to officials. Prospective pet owners can go to the city's website to find out more about her.
Mandy's rescue comes about one month after another female puppy was rescued from a dumpster on Jefferson Avenue in Winnipeg's The Maples neighbourhood.
The puppy in that case, named Rayne, has since been adopted out to new owners in River Heights, who report that she has doubled in size in recent weeks, according to the city.
Staff with the animal services agency are reminding Winnipeggers who can no longer care for their pets to ask family members, friends or co-workers if they could care for the animals, or contacting a number of animal welfare groups in the city.
