A teenage boy and girl have been charged with attempted murder after a seriously injured man was found inside a garbage bin in the city's West End.
Winnipeg police say the 23-year-old victim was found suffering from serious upper-body injuries in a garbage collection bin, by the 500 block of Spence Street at about 8:40 a.m. CT Saturday.
The man is currently listed in critical condition in hospital, police said Sunday.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, in the same area where the assault allegedly took place, and charged with attempted murder and breach of probation.
Then on Sunday, officers arrested a 15-year-old girl and charged her with attempted murder, according to a news release.
Both teens cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They are currently in custody.
Police say the victim was with several other males he knew when a fight broke out and he was assaulted.
Following the attack, the victim was placed in a nearby garbage bin and left to die as the suspects fled the area, according to police.
Paramedics were later notified of the man in the garbage bin by a passerby.
Police say several factors have led to the attempted murder charge being laid, including the violent nature of the attack, the victim's extensive injuries, and the fact that he was left in a garbage bin afterwards.
More arrests in the case are possible, according to police.
