There was joy in Winnipeg's Spanish community Sunday with Spain winning the 2012 European soccer championship.
Nearly 100 people showed up at the Spanish Club of Winnipeg on Selkirk Avenue to watch Spain capture its second consecutive Euro by defeating Italy 4-0 in Kiev.
Excited fans were out on the street waving the Spanish flag after the game — and Winnipegger Alex Tulloch was wearing his heart on his sleeve.
"I think we all hoped for it, but it was pretty amazing that they actually pulled through and pulled off another championship," Tulloch said. "Let's hope they go for number four in the World Cup in two years."
Meanwhile, some fans like Hugh Aragon were a little more low-key, although still happy.
"It's nothing out of the ordinary," Aragon said. "We're the world champion after all. It's not a surprise."
Spain also won the Euro 2008 as well as the 2010 World Cup.
