A 19-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Winnipeg's North End over the weekend may have been responsible for at least two similar attacks, police say.
The man was arrested on the 300 block of Selkirk Avenue shortly after a 28-year-old woman reported at around 8:25 p.m. CT that she had been sexually assaulted.
The woman told police she was walking in the area when she was grabbed from behind by a man who groped her and tried to push her into some nearby bushes.
The woman was able to escape and contact police, who found and arrested the man in the area a short time later.
The man was charged with sexual assault and released on a promise to appear in court at a later time, Winnipeg police said in a release Sunday.
Police said they believe the man, whose name they did not release, may have been responsible for similar incidents.
They are asking anyone who has been groped by a man riding a bicycle near Main Street and Redwood Avenue, or Portage Avenue and Ingersoll Street, to call the police service's sex crimes unit at 204-986-9625.
The man is described as six feet, three inches tall and weighing 235 pounds. He has short, dark brown hair and was riding a bicycle at the time of the incidents, police said.
Indecent act on St. Anne's Road
In an unrelated incident Saturday, police were called at about 12:25 p.m. to St. Anne's Road after a woman said she saw a man exposing himself to her.
According to police, the 58-year-old woman was waiting for a Winnipeg Transit bus near St. Anne's Road and Poplarwood Avenue when a man walked towards her while he was "indecently exposed."
The man, who ran away from the area, was described as in his 40s, about six feet tall with blond hair.
Anyone who may have information in this case is asked to call the east district crime unit at 204-986-2857.
