Winnipeg fire crews fought eight blazes overnight, including six that targeted garages.

That brings the total number of garage fires since June 1 in the city to 18.

The first fire started at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday in a garage in the 400 block of Boyd Avenue in the city's North End. Damage is estimated at $8,000.

Then just after midnight, at 12:30 a.m., crews were called to the 1300 block of Raleigh Street, in the East Kildonan area. No one was hurt when a fire started in a second floor bedroom.

Damage is estimated at $20,000.

The next fire happened just after 2 a.m., striking two garages in the 1100 block of Magnus Avenue in the Shaughnessy Park neighbourhood. Damage is estimated at $15,000.

Then just before 3 a.m., crews were called to the 600 block of Selkirk Avenue in the North End, where a suite was burning. Damage is $80,000 and one person suffered a minor injury.

Shortly after, at 3:20 a.m., firefighters were called to the 100 block of Enfield Crescent in the Norwood area where a double-detached garage was well involved in flames.

No one was hurt. Damage is estimated at $35,000.

The seventh and eighth fires happened back-to-back at about 6 a.m. in the 200 block of Pritchard Avenue in the North End. Crews were responding to one fire when they noticed a second, both in garages.

The fires were quickly brought under control.
