A home in West St. Paul was destroyed after a fire tore through it Monday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the site of the blaze at the junction of Highway 8 and the Perimeter shortly before 1:30 p.m.

Firefighters from East St. Paul, West St. Paul and St. Andrews battled the flames.

Witnesses told CBC News that flames were shooting from the roof of the building and several curious onlookers parked on the side of the road to watch.

Graham Bremner spotted the fire from the highway.

"I was coming down 59 and I could actually see the smoke at Birds Hill," Bremner said. "I was going around the Perimeter when I came up the overpass for McPhillips — I could see the house and flames shooting out the top of the house."

RCMP said no one was injured but the home is a total loss.

The office of the fire commissioner is investigating what caused the fire.
