A man who owned a care home in Brandon, Man., is being accused of sexually assaulting disabled women who lived there in the 1980s.
The 54-year-old man faces six counts of sexual exploitation of a person with disabilities, four counts of sexual assault, and assault charges, Brandon police announced Thursday.
The man is scheduled to appear in court on April 5. Police did not release his name.
According to police, three complainants came forward with the abuse claims, which date back to 1985.
Police told CBC News that the assaults allegedly took place at a privately operated residential care facility that the man had owned at the time.
Police would not identify the home in question, and it is not clear if the man still owns the home today.
Police did say all of the home's tenants have been removed from the facility since the investigation began on Feb. 9.
Officials with Manitoba's Family Services and Labour Department are cooperating with the investigation, police added.
Further charges could be laid as the investigation continues, according to police.
