Winnipeg police have arrested a 33-year-old woman in connection to a fire last month that caused $50,000 in damage.

The fire happened on Jan 25, on the 700 block of Maryland Street.

A dispute took place between the suspect and one of the building's tenants, said Const. Jason Michalyshen with the Winnipeg police.

He said the woman set an item in the building's lobby on fire before running off.

"The suspect had some form of a relationship with one of the tenants," said Michalyshen. "As a result, they became involved in a dispute. There was some sort of confrontation that lead to the suspect making the decision to deliberately set a fire."

There were five people inside the building, one managed to escape, the other four were rescued by firefighters.

The woman faces two arson related charges.
