The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have locked up their quarterbacking triumvirate with the signing of Alex Brink.
The 26-year-old was set to enter into free agency this week.
“I am very happy about returning to the Blue Bombers where I am surrounded by great teammates and coaches,” Brink said in a statement.
“The opportunity I have in Winnipeg is one I’m excited to be a part of and will allow me to continue to get better as a quarterback in the CFL.”
Brink, who first signed with the Bombers in 2010, saw playing time in eight games last season, including making two starts. He completed 89 of 140 pass attempts for 1,023 yards and five touchdowns against four interceptions, while also serving as the team’s quarterback during short-yardage situations.
He recorded 148 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground last season.
“Alex has shown tremendous progression in his short time in our league and gained a lot of experience on the playing field last season,” Bombers vice-president and general manager Joe Mack stated in a news release.
“He is very well liked by his teammates and possesses great leadership qualities both on the field and in the locker room. We look forward to having him back in Winnipeg as we continue to develop our young stable of quarterbacks.”
The Bombers have also re-signed backup QB Joey Elliott and starting QB Buck Pierce in the past two weeks.
